Got BDE?⚡️
Hi BDEs! Welcome to the FUNERAL of the dashboard analyst… if that’s you, then I’m really sorry 🥲 today’s you’re last day…
On the bright side, I’m launching very soon a free data analytics roadmap and a BLUEPRINT of how to land that first job and move up. Stay tuned 💅🏼
The End of the Dashboard Analyst 🪦
A few years ago, you could get hired as a data analyst just by dragging a few charts into a Tableau dashboard, tossing in a few vague KPIs, and calling it a day.
The pipelines might’ve been broken half of the time.
The filters didn’t always work.
There were probably errors in the data.
But it didn’t matter, because companies were so desperate to “become data-driven,” they’d take anything that looked like insight. They wanted to say they were data-driven and feel data-driven more than they actually wanted to be data-driven.
Data was sexy, cool, and new. (ok fine, data wasn’t new… it’s been around a long time. But the way companies were suddenly prioritizing it more and demanding an increase in data talent was new.)
But we’re not in 2020 anymore. It’s 2025 now, and things have changed already in only 5 years. Heck, it’s only been a couple of years since ChatGPT launched and see how much has changed even since then! 😅
We have to grow and evolve as data analysts to stay relevant in this ever-changing industry… especially if we want to compete with AI. Anyone (literally anyone with thumbs) can use AI to spin up a decent-looking dashboard in seconds now. Stakeholders. Interns. Product managers. Even executives 😂
So if your biggest skill is building dashboards: you’re already replaceable.
Let’s be real: the analysts who will actually stay relevant (and get the best jobs, the biggest raises, and the most respect)… are the ones who can do way more than just build visuals.
Companies aren’t hiring dashboard monkeys anymore. They’re hiring business translators, strategic thinkers, and full-stack data professionals. The bar is higher now, and that’s a good thing because it means improved analytics and insights across the industry.
Here’s what actually makes you valuable as a data analyst in 2025 and beyond:
✨ Translate business questions into code & analyses
✨ Manage stakeholders, expectations, & scope
✨ Build semantic views to support reporting
✨ Maintain and QA legacy code
✨ ETL data sources like CRMs
Because here’s the truth no one wants to say: AI isn’t replacing data analysts. It’s just exposing the ones who were never doing much to begin with 😂 (sorry if this hurts your feelings)
So if you’ve been building your technical skills, asking better business questions, and learning how to own the full data lifecycle? Good. You’re ahead of the curve. If not, now’s the time to level up.
If you’re ready to level up in SQL: build your first Data Analytics project in only 30 min for free (even if you’re a complete newbie with no experience):
See ya soon, data baddies 💅🏼
